Anex was founded in 1954 in Sanjo, a blacksmithing town and made screwdrivers. Instead of expanding into other tools, Anex has chosen to perfect the screwdriver. Today they are one of Japan's biggest manufacturers of fastening tools.

While the basic idea of the screwdriver has not changed, the needs of the customer have changed over time. Anex uses customer feedback to produce innovative products such as its insulated bits. These have allowed safer usage of electric screwdrivers on switchboards and devices.
